TAVANTOLGOI COAL MINE OF THE “ERDENES-TAVANTOLGOI” JSC WAS TAKEN UNDER CONTRACT SECURITY PROTECTION OF THE INTERNAL TROOPS.
On December 2, 2020 at the regular meeting of the Cabinet decided, the Tavantolgoi coal mine of the “Erdenes-Tavantolgoi” JSC would be taken under contract security protection of the internal troops. As a result, “Erdenes-Tavantolgoi” JSC, which solely accounts for 7% of gross domestic product, 8% of state budget tax revenue and 41% of coal exports, is fully secured and will able to operate sustainably.
In addition, it is now possible to ensure the safety of citizens, miners and truck drivers living and working in the Tsogttsetsii soum of Umnugovi aimag. Also able to enforce law and order measures by a professional organization, to prevent demonstrations and riots in the mining area, /this is a significant object of the state/ to monitor activities in preventing the road traffic accidents and ensuring coal transport drivers to follow traffic rules on regular basis.
“Erdenes-Tavantolgoi” JSC requires 24-hour security on a total of 350 hectares of land. And around 2600 people work there and about 1,000 coal trucks enter the mine area on daily basis.
Furthermore, number of objects need of security expected to increase as an establishment of Tavantolgoi power plant, water supply facility, coal handling and processing plant, 8.2 km of road connecting the mine to the Gashuunsukhait road and 13.2 km road to connect the new mine administration building to the soum center and railway loading facility are underway.
