On December 2, 2020 the Mongolian government decided to provide refined fuel to 220,000 households living in the ger areas of the capital city at reduced price by 50 percent. As a result, residents will be able to buy per ton of improved briquettes for 75,000 MNT and reduction would be in force from 3 December to April 1, 2021.
In last year, “Erdenes-Tavantolgoi” JSC was responsible for financing the smokeless fuel project and fully funded the “Tavantolgoi Fuel” LLC as part of its social responsibility. A new briquette plant will be commissioned in the eastern part of the capital city in the near future, thus expanding operations of the “Tavantolgoi Fuel” LLC and doubling its production, and “Erdenes-Tavantolgoi” JSC is also financing the new plant. With the increase in the number of new plants, the city's emissions can be reduced by up to 80 percent. According to a study by the relevant organizations, residents of UB consume around 4,000 tons of improved briquettes per day in winter and about 120,000 tons per month.
